HISTORY:
OCT 1989
300 CE-24 (230 bhp) launched with 5-speed automatic gearbox.
OCT 1992 220/320 CE Coupes and 320 CE Cabriolet launched.
AUG 1993 E220 Cabriolet launched. All versions now known
as E-Class Coupes and Cabriolets (e.g. old 220 CE Coupe
becomes E220 Coupe; 320 CE Cabriolet becomes E320 Cabriolet).
JUL 1994 AMG E36 Coupe and Cabriolet (both 272 bhp) launched
in limited numbers. JAN 1995 Revisions include standard
15-hole alloy wheels (on E220), walnut veneer trim, metallic
paintwork and door exit lights. E320 has 8-hole alloy wheels
and headlamp wash/wipe. JUN 1996 E320 Cabriolet now has
5-speed automatic gearbox, cruise control and acceleration
skid control (ASR).

COMMENTS:
End of a distinguished line, now looking middle-aged next
to the SLK and CLK but seats four in genuine style and comfort.
Still manages to turn heads - very desirable especially the
cleverly designed Cabriolet. |
