HISTORY:
JAN 1999 New S Class S320 (220 bhp), S430 (279 bhp) and S500 (306 bhp) rear wheel drive Saloons launched, also S320L and S500L long wheelbase Limousine models, all with 5-speed automatic gearbox, anti-lock brakes, power assisted steering, adaptive damping suspension, alloy wheels, front and rear airbags, CD, climate control, cruise control, electric front seats, electric mirrors and automatic closing boot. S320 has headlamp wash and electric sunroof; S430 has auto closing doors, seats with memory function and infra red blocking glass; S500 has xenon headlamps, stability control, heated seats, rain sensor wipers, window airbags and trip computer.

COMMENTS:
Noticeably more dynamic than the previous model from a drivers viewpoint but even with the new sleeker image it is more likely to appeal to the older movers and shakers. Quality, comfort, refinement and awesome technology make this the ultimate prestige purchase.
